What is polysorbate 60 used for?

Polysorbate 60 is widely used as an emulsifier, solubiliser, and wetting agent across the pharmaceutical industry. In the pharmaceutical industry, polysorbate 60 is used in the formulation of drug delivery systems. Research shows that polysorbate 60 can improve the bioavailability of APIs as a part of a nanoemulsion (Ikeuchi-Takahashi et al., 2018). Because of its HLB value of 14.9, polysorbate 60 has also been found to more effectively solubilise certain APIs such as lycopene for use in gene delivery systems (Mashal et al., 2017).
