Dr. Zakia Alhareth

Dr. Zakia Alhareth
Dr Zakia Alhareth is a Calleva Senior Postdoctoral Associate at the Jenner Institute, University of Oxford, working in Professor Sir Adrian Hill’s group. Her research focuses on the development of next-generation genetic vaccines, with particular expertise in mRNA vaccine technologies for malaria and emerging infectious diseases. Her work combines antigen design, delivery optimisation, and detailed immunological assessment to improve vaccine immunogenicity while reducing reactogenicity. She is also investigating novel approaches to enhance antigen delivery and targeting to specific organs and tissues in vivo, with the aim of improving vaccine efficacy and safety. In addition to advancing mRNA-based malaria vaccines, she is leading efforts to develop novel vaccines targeting arthropod-borne viruses, with a particular focus on flaviviruses. Zakia is also actively engaged in interdisciplinary leadership and innovation initiatives across the University of Oxford, including AI and translational research activities.
