Dr César López-Camachom

Dr César López-CamachomDr César López-Camacho completed his PhD in Molecular Biology at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, and has held postdoctoral positions at UMASS Medical School, the University of Vermont College of Medicine (USA), and the University of Oxford, developing expertise in molecular biology, gene expression fidelity, and vaccinology.

Dr López-Camacho joined Oxford over a decade ago and his research centres on vaccine development against arthropod-borne pathogens spanning viruses transmitted by mosquitoes, ticks, and other vectors. His work prioritises rational antigen design, immune response optimisation, and translational strategies suitable for low-resource settings. At the Jenner Institute, he is pioneering an in-house mRNA vaccine platform supported by JFF and NIHR Capital Fund awards. His team integrates Lipid Nanoparticles (LNPs) for encapsulation and delivery, with the goal of accelerating the development of next-generation mRNA vaccines. This effort includes building a dedicated mRNA core facility to support internal and external preclinical vaccine research.
