Avanti™ POPC
1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-glycero-3-phosphocholine (POPC) or 16:0-18:1 PC (POPC), is a mixed-chain phospholipid featuring a 16-carbon saturated (palmitoyl) acyl chain at the sn-1 position and an 18-carbon monounsaturated (oleoyl) acyl chain at the sn-2 position. Thanks to a ~–2°C phase transition temperature and its physiological relevance, POPC is widely used in membrane biophysics, liposome formulations, and cell model systems.
POPC is a major lipid in eukaryotic cell membranes and is common in model membrane systems to imitate physiological conditions. Another notable aspect of this phospholipid is its balance between fluidity and stability, which allows it to be incorporated into drug delivery systems and lipid-based nanoparticles (LNPs).
16:0-18:1 PC (POPC) supports membrane protein integration, lipid raft research, and ion channel studies. These applications make it a key lipid in structural and functional membrane research. POPC has also contributed to vesicle fusion and structural lipid analyses through its integral functions in bilayer mechanics, lipid mixing, and membrane curvature studies.
