Avanti™ DOPS

1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-L-serine, sodium salt or 18:1 PS (DOPS) is an ionic phospholipid with two 18-carbon monounsaturated acyl chains, which makes it a naturally occurring phosphatidylserine (PS) analog. As such, DOPS plays a crucial role in membrane dynamics, signal transduction, and protein-lipid interactions. This phospholipid is also known for its low phase transition temperature of ~–10 to –12°C, which means it can remain highly fluid at physiological temperatures. This allows seamless integration into liposomal formulations, apoptosis research, and cell membrane studies.

18:1 PS (DOPS) can help improve membrane fusion and cellular uptake efficiency. For this reason, it is a vital lipid for targeted drug and gene delivery. DOPS plays a significant role in lipid raft formation, vesicle generation, and protein anchoring and is an essential lipid for simulating biological membranes

Additional applications include facilitating the study of lipid bilayer mechanics, lipid asymmetry, and protein-lipid interactions. It also serves as a crucial component in phosphatidylserine externalization and a key indicator of programmed cell death.
