Bycos are produced by enzymatically hydrolysing pharmaceutical grade gelatin under carefully controlled conditions. They are protective colloids, film formers, emulsion stabilisers and binders. Used as granulation and tabletting aids and in microencapsulation of heat sensitive actives e.g. oil soluble vitamins. Byco A and C are available from bovine sources and differ in viscosity and gel forming properties.
